As you have seen, Seven Card eight-or-better is a game of implied odds. seven card stud.
It usually doesn’t just cost one or two more bets to go to the river.
From Fifth Street on, it can cost as much as seven to ten bets.
This is a function of the cards that are out and the players that you are against.
The implied odds are especially related to whether you can win all or only half of the pot.
Keep in mind that some of the biggest mistakes are made on fourth street. If your hand develops poorly, you should get out quickly.
Staying to see another card can prove costly. There are a few other things worth mentioning.
To begin with, as the text points out, check-raising is very important in this game.
Its main purpose is not always just to gain an extra bet, but also to be able to knock out an opponent and sometimes to win a pot that you otherwise wouldn’t win.
This is the real value of check-raising. Disguising your hand can be crucial.
You may not have many opportunities to do this, but when you can, it is a big money-maker.
Always be thinking about how you might play your hand, so you can take maximum advantage when you are able to disguise it.
As for the high hands, keep in mind that if they look as though they can win only half the pot, many of them should be discarded on Fifth Street.
Don’t fall into the trap of automatically going all the way with a big pair.
And finally, don’t be afraid to bet on seventh street in situations where a lot of your opponents will check.
It’s true that the potential action can be scary, but the bets that I have discussed are profitable.
