If the flop is you might want to play, since you can make a wheel, a six-high straight, or a full house. But if a lot of poker players took the flop, someone probably is drawing at a better low.
That is, unless an ace hits, you most likely will be playing only for high and not for a very good high.
If the flop in the example given shows a two flush, you should throw away your hand unless you are getting high pot odds. But if no two flush is on board, it may be OK to continue playing.
Concept No.6: In good position, ace-trey is almost always worth playing before the flop, but deuce-trey is usually not.
There is a great deal of difference between an ace-trey and a deuce-trey. The ace-trey is significantly better, because it not only is lower than deuce-trey but also gives you more ways to win high, such as pairing aces.
The deuce-trey is playable in very soft games, but you need an ace to flop.
Concept No.7: High pairs with two other big cards are usually playable.
In fact, in a multiway pot, a hand like
might be slightly better than a hand like
Also, in multiway pots, the aces you need are probably out in the low hands, which now makes the K K

more of a live hand.
With the kings, you have more straight draws to nut hands that won’t split the pot, plus if you flop a set of kings, as opposed to a set of aces, you are more likely to win the whole pot. (The ace puts a low card on board.)
This doesn’t mean that you should play a pair of kings stronger than a pair of aces, because when you hold two kings, an ace can come to beat you.
With a hand like K K

, raising before the flop is usually not correct. Most of the preflop raising in this game is done strictly to knock out players behind you, that is, to buy the button.
Raising before the flop to get more money in the pot is normally not the best strategy.
Although with a hand like you generally will want to go ahead and raise.
Concept No.8: Position means a lot.
You can play more hands in the last couple of positions than in the early position.
This might be more true in tougher games, but it is also true in the loose, easy games that are common at the lower limits. ( In late position, you have an opportunity to win additional money when you get a lucky flop.)
